The WebAssembly JavaScript Promise Integration API
- rektide 4y agoWe just just shipped OPFS and what-wg/fs assuming WebAssembly was the highest concern, and assuming async interoperations were hard & slow. Rather than build a regular modern async browser api, we rebuilt these to be sync, for wasm. And now, it feels lile those assumptions around building a special case uniquely shaped api are gone, on the way out, and we're left with a weird mismatching api released in the brief weird window where this was a valid concern to justify doing everything funkily. There's an outstanding ticket in whatwg/fs for going back and adding an async api, which perhaps maybe some day some champion dev at some browser will step in & pick up this reformation. Assuming this work to smooth wasm's use of the web platform goes well, which I hope- for many reasons- it does.
