In my opinion this type of argument is built to stop lower classes from complaining more than a cut and dry example of how overspending on ill-perceived necessities can cost you wealth in the long run. More importantly, there are tons of people who do live fiscally responsible and still can't afford basic necessities (let alone avocado toast).
