ReactOS helped me in a pinch recently when I needed to run a Windows only app to configure an IoT device. As I don't own any Windows system, it's very nice to have an option other than buying or borrowing a copy of Windows.
- actionfromafar 4y agoThat's a very bloggable story. :-)
- owaislone 4y agoNice! Would be great to learn more about your experience. Was Wine not enough? Due to drivers or other features that ReactOS has?
- getoffmyyawn 4y agoTo be honest I didn't think about wine. I haven't used it in a long time. I strongly suspect it would have also worked.
- qayxc 4y agoI'm a bit puzzled by this. You can install Windows without having to buy it. You can even run it forever if you want to - other than a watermark and some personalisation options being locked, nothing is different from an activated copy. For stuff like simply configuring a device, any old ISO or even VM image available directly from MS should do.
- getoffmyyawn 4y agoI think those are good options if you don't mind sending data to Microsoft. edit: typo
- qayxc 4y agoBut how would that even work in a VM not connected to any network? I hear this allegation a lot without anyone being able to explain how an offline installation would even be able to do this...
- andix 4y agoIf it runs on react os it probably also runs on wine. Or did it need some driver support that didn’t work with wine?
