DevOps Is a Poorly Executed Scam
- _madmax_ 4y agoThe author seems to be a devotee of the Asshole Driven Development methodology. Also there's a ton of books / course so that they can learn just like they learn scrum Waste of time of an article, nobody needs to hear your shit.
- LargoLasskhyfv 4y agoWhenever I'm reading someone complaining like this, about things they can't stand, I've got to think 'STFU wannabe special snowflake!', nobody needs to hear your shit.
- _madmax_ 4y agoYou've just described how special a snowflake you are, congratulations, fuck face.
- LargoLasskhyfv 4y agoDe nada.
- daviddever23box 4y ago"If you deploy to Linux, you develop on Linux. No more of this coding on your Macbook Pro and deploying to Ubuntu: that is why you can't have nice things." Nope. Use containers on whatever *nix platform you like. Use languages that cross-compile easily.
- kazinator 4y agoWell, you know, coding on Macs with one language implementation and deploying on FreeBSD with another is why you can't have nice things like Reddit written in Lisp. Maybe there is a bit of a point there?
- yuppie_scum 4y agoHave fun fixing whatever manually-deployed, completely undocumented BS is running on a server that this guy built in five years
- nickd2001 4y agoTo me, DevOps largely means really good automated build, test deployment and automated tests so that you can see what's going on quickly. This is worth its weight in gold. Can't see why this would be a scam. Its also not entirely new. I wrote shell scripts in the mid-90s to automate huge C++ builds, for various different release branches.
- makeitrain 4y agoInstead of trying to “do dev ops” why not try to build a functional continuous integration pipeline that developers like to use. You can name it whatever you want.
