I had one job where my ability to write recursive descent parsers made me a “100x ninja rockstar” because they had a lot of parsing problems that no one recognized as such. I expressly did not use a parser generator because of the complexity to the build, the unfamiliarity of the rest of the team, and I considered them to be overkill for the domain.
