not disagreeing with you.
but way things are going, this line of argument will lose in the end. we, people, have chosen that consuming entertainment is more important than the work. we have chosen the path of quantity over quality.
netflix wants to produce a movie every week. let's that sink in for a moment.
- ggm 4y agoBollywood sustained that rate of production for decades. As did national TV channels worldwide, at a soaps level. But to your underlying point, I am also not optimistic. I think the hit machine and "in the style of" is like deepfakes in the adult industry. The market will exist, and its the lowest cost barrier there is. I'd hate to be depending on IPR law for my income. Connection with the fans, the live experience, merch, has been the real income after A&R for decades, but its a hard slog. And random stupid lives in getting too close to fans. Entertainment is the industry which predates itself. If the A&R and residuals model didn't suck "profit" out of the machine so the payment to artist on 'remaining profits' wasn't zero, it would be nicer for everyone but then.. who pays for the pile of coke in the executive toilet suite?
