I was onboard with the premise, but the examples screenshotted by the author are INCREDIBLY underwhelming. There is nothing "Socratic" about the Socrates example. There is nothing therapeutic about the therapist examples. "It sounds like you're experiencing a range of emotions. Is there one that stands out more than the others?" is really a more wordy version of "That sounds really hard, say more about that." Which is fine! This is a Rubber Duck on Steroids. But at least in the examples listed here, this is hardly a step beyond what ELIZA could have done 40 years ago, and the evidence in no way supports the author's original conclusion that GPT-3 is ALMOST as good as an "Empathetic friend".
