I would say OpenCL was "betrayed" by most Khronos consortium participants on some level or another, and those who didn't betray it still tried to find ways to vendor-lock rather than really sharing and advancing the ecosystem to where it needed to be. Still, remember that if you're not in the PC space, CUDA might not even be an option for you.
