I have many friends from highschool that never pursued higher education and went directly into the workforce after school. They all live with their family, or with 4+ roommates. It's not a glamorous life, but they're not struggling to pay the bills or to save for retirement. I used to think that there is no way things could get worse, with some studio apartments in my city going for 5k/m, but I wonder if it simply means that I'm gonna have to start doing those things too. Almost all paths to lowering rent seem unlikely to happen, so it seems natural that it's gonna be a race to the bottom for what renters are willing to accept. Today I have a 30 min commute 1 bedroom apartment, tomorrow I'll have an hour commute splitting the bills with three other people, while my friends are going to be splitting a room. Seems more likely than more housing getting built.
