I am always impressed at how duplicitous Gosling both is, and admits to being. It is of course dead false to claim that at the time Java came out, other languages than C were dead. C++ was going gangbusters, and Python was rising. That he sought to fool programmers about the nature of the Java runtime is anyway consistent. That he utterly failed to understand the nature of the things he cribbed from C++, and so got them spectacularly wrong, does not seem to have sunk in even yet.
