Wine 8.0-Rc4 Released
- 2Gkashmiri 4y agocould wine ever be incorporated into the default os as another application, like libreoffice or firefox is standard? that would put wine in the hands of more people and its not like you are forced to use it, it would be just a package among dozens that are shipped by default. something like mint so that a movice windows migrant would ber told to "find a linux version of the software from the software repo or just install the windows version as you would on windows and get going? steam has done a lot of work around gaming and the pace with which wine/proton/Ge and others are working, gaming is slowly becoming more and more real. bringing it as a default install would further reduce this problem of "friction"
- paulryanrogers 4y agoIME Wine is just not compatible enough to be seamless. It usually requires tweaks for all but the simplest of apps. And for many classes of apps it may be an impossibly awkward fit, like utility apps for hardware or interoperability. Wine is also chasing a moving target while trying to reside on several evolving platforms.
- 2Gkashmiri 4y agowell yeah. that is what i am saying. lets say we ship with 7.0 instead of 8. that would be stable enough for most people with easy option for people to shift to updated wine to get more performance... i have used "bottles" which seems to be a good bet but the settings overload is real on it.
