Didn’t RTFA, but imo a ton of what makes these companies slow and inefficient is the hardcore performance review culture. People focus on the wrong things, or gaming measured metrics, so they can focus on getting more money. If people weren’t absorbed in how their work matches some dumb matrix, they might actually focus on working on the right problems.
- danrocks 4y agoBeing a group manager at one FAANG and having just gone through a 5-day massive org performance review, I concur. People who actually launched something (however messy it was) may get punished in favor of those who "influenced other orgs".
