Gary Marcus: We need a CERN type collaboration to achieve artificial general intelligence because private companies are incentivized to solve specific tasks that support their business model. Deep learning with ever larger data sets will not get us to AGI. For that we need other tools. Symbolic reasoning might be one. Right now, we don't know how to get to AGI and need a paradigm shift to understand it. That's going to take a lot of money and collaboration similar to the CERN project.
