"tell me about project y here" interviewee: [tells me a bit] me: [ask questions, listen, drill down, listen, get gently more and more technical, back off if I hit a soft spot and find another place to drill down] repeat, repeat. I find its a good way to determine the candidate's strengths - versus freaking them out with a gotcha that's irrelevant to their skillset.
