There's quite a few people struggling with the iOS keyboard - someone posted here a few months ago that if you turn off "Predictive" and "Slide to Type" in your keyboard settings - it goes back to behaving more like it used to. I've found it made a massive difference for me, give it a shot and pass the word along.
