I'm planning to work on a terminal emulator. I want to be able to support an unlimited scrollback buffer so that users can see the entire command line history.
I was thinking of using an in-mem ring buffer with a capacity. Beyond that capacity, I will move the overflowed output to a memory-mapped file. But the memory-mapped file needs to be expandable, and randomly accessible.
after reading this project's introduction, I'm wondering if this WAL can be used for the scrollback buffer. I feel that it might be a good choice, given the write optimizations the project has done.
