I'm not American, but optimism that isn't framed as something to directly invest in is neutralizing. Even reports out of Davos show that crowd is worried about real turbulence and unrest (largely of their own creation). Their endgame is just beginning.
The specific dynamic of the last decade has been that as GenX has taken the reins of institutions, the one thing standing in the way of their weilding government as a blunt and absolute instrument of social reinvention is the democratic cohort of working class and rural voters who don't recognize the legitimacy of their elite self-identity and could vote to keep them out of power.
Margins in popular elections are in single digit percentage points, and so to remedy this, they realized that if they couldn't persuade voters to keep them in power with their policies at the voting booth, they could use immigration to mass import voters who would depend on their promised policies, and whose relative poverty would make those votes much cheaper to be bought with small promises like cash benefits. The logic goes that if you have an objection to this and think being born in a country entitles you to membership in a nation state whose government is accountable to said nation, you are a racist and beneath contempt - so much so that if you are killed by your prescriptions (opioids) or as a consequence of emergency policy, nothing of value is lost.
This was not merely right or left either, as the neocons of the 90s and 00s, led by the same cast of characters we have today were also an anti-national movement that sought to make nations subject to international governance. Then, it was via the WTO and use international institutions to subordinate "emerging market" countries by offering their leaders bribes for resource policy concessions. This isn't their first rodeo.
America is not on the right track. It has been purposely derailed by someone who, unlike 20th century demagogues whose ambitions were limited by their nation state orientations, understood that power is inversely proportional to its visibility. Its institutions have been compromised by networks he has been building over 35 years via WEF. He has subordinated entire countries (CAN/AU/NZ) by infiltrating their universities and political parties, and installing their leaders.
This isn't a conspiracy theory, it's a real time critical observation with precedents of how the men we learn about, from Napoleon to Mao, as single political minds, shift history in the course their own lifetimes. The author of this piece is providing bromides to neutralize the uncomfortable sense of dissonance about the absurdities of official narrative, which are unavoidable without actively suppressing criticism of them. I have no doubt it's being passed around at Davos to as a talking points sheet.
