  The exception that proves the rule? That was the one that came to mind that, to my history-lacking-knowledge became peaceful right after the shooting stopped. I don't disagree.

  An extremely rare event due to a leader actually stepping down when everyone around him was telling him to stay. Historians point to this behavior by George Washington as essentially one-of-a-kind in human history.
