How is blocking funding for the government going to balance the budget? It’s like you saying you’re going to get your spending under control by stopping to pay your credit cards.
It’s just performative. Republicans had full control of all 3 branches of government in trump’s first term and all they did was increase the debt with unfunded tax cuts.
The republic is teetering because of this disfunction and hypocrisy, legislators who have no interest in actually legislating and finding compromises to solve our problems.

If you keep doing that you get more and more in the red. If you keep your current credit limit and instead stop buying so much junk you can reduce your debt. > It’s just performative. Republicans had full control of all 3 branches of government in trump’s first term and all they did was increase the debt with unfunded tax cuts. I 100% agree with you. It's performative by the majority of Republicans. There are some who I feel truly believe a balanced budget is the #1 issue, though, and I'm rooting for them. Unfunded tax cuts (TCJA) are _worse_ than the status quo of just bumping the limit; that made my blood boil.
- kmos17 4y agoNone of them will do anything about balancing the budget when they can, how will this circus act achieve it? The majority of them are performative and the rest of them are just chaos monkeys in it for the power this gives them, no matter the cost to the country. Debt in any case is not our biggest most urgent problem, it may not be a problem at all in fact.
