Bill Gates Doesn’t Think Web3 Is a Big Deal
- simonebrunozzi 4y agoAnd he's right.
- verdverm 4y agoHe said the same thing about the metaverse, but I think he's wrong there, if you consider ubiquitous augmented reality to be part of the metaverse, or as I like to call it, merged reality (digital & physical) I don't think we will still be accessing the internet from tiny viewing boxes in our hands for much longer
- geoah 4y agoI agree that ubiquitous ar is going to happen and that is indeed a big thing. But I’m not sure the metaverse is going to be its beginning. Facebook is looking for the next big thing they own. And no one will wanna play ball with them as they lost everyone’s trust. (See the mess that was libra) For me it’s more probable that the ar stuff are going to start off with someone like apple, with a very different vision than fb. Think smart tags with uw1 chips around you in the physical world that your ar glasses can see and read metadata off them that allow you to annotate what you see and interact with them. I don’t think ar will start in vr, but rather the real world. Ofc this is all complete speculation and wishful thinking.
- verdverm 4y agoWhat's really funny is the Microsoft has the best AR device on the market, the Hololens 2. No need for smart tags or controllers, uses space & object recognition with hand inputs. They also have MRTK for development across a variety of platform and devices, not just theirs, fully open source. You can start building experiences today :chef kiss:
