Why does Python use j instead of I for complex numbers?
- Asraelite 4y agoIt sounds like one of those cases where it was decided early on without too much thought and the reasoning given now is just after-the-fact justification. Which is fine; you can't expect language designers to bikeshed every little thing at the beginning.
- karmakaze 4y agoThe explanation is in the title itself. In the font I just read it, the j was clear, the i/I was ambiguous like a | likely the same reason engineers use j.
- webnrrd2k 4y agoDon't electrical engineers use j, because i is commonly used to represent current? I always ussumed it was from that.
- webnrrd2k 4y agoI shoulda' read the post first -- thats the second answer.
