Seems silly, maybe, but I credit more of my ability to write a college-quality passage or short paper, by the time I graduated high school, more to... way too much time spent posting on Slashdot, of all places, as a kid, than to school. Helps when you don't have to pad your writing to hit a page count, and can just get straight to the point :-) Went into college with fewer bad high-school-induced writing habits than others usually have. As soon as I figured out the professors wanted my Slashdot-writing, not my shitty high school essay writing, it was smooth sailing.
