How does an airspeed indicator work?
- simonblack 4y agoWay back of course, when aviation was in short pants and most planes didn't have anything electrical much less anything electronic, the ASI (Air Speed Indicator) was basically an aneroid barometer that measured the difference in air pressures between the forward-facing Pitot Tube and the non-forward-facing Static Vent. The faster the plane went, the higher the air pressure at the end of the pitot tube, and the greater the difference in air pressures, so the higher the airspeed reading.
