I love my heat pump. When it was -25C outside it was still performing with a COP of ~3. It is ground source - I have a large loop submerged in a large pond, so it is the temperature of the water (was low of 2C as read at the intake) that is important rather than the air temperature. It would likely be better in deep trenches (frostline here is 1.5m), but the installation cost in the pond was negligible, and meant i didnt need to tear up the garden.
- SamBam 4y agoHow do you measure your COP? I'm having heat pumps installed now, and am interested in how everyone has this information at their fingertips.
- supermatt 4y agoMy heat pump will say how much kWh of heat it has output (~2400kWh last month). I also have a separate electrical meter just for the heat pump that tells me how much electricity it consumed (~700kWh last month). I simply divide the heat output by the electricity consumed which gives me a COP of ~3.4. I can connect the meter to the heat pump, in which case the pump will use pulses from the meter to calculate it internally, but i havent set that up. I have no idea why it doesnt come with an integrated meter... seems like that would be easier tbh.
