Back before COVID someone griped to me the owners of a shop in Pittsburgh don’t like when folks sit there and “work” all day.
I heard the same gripe when wifi first became ubiquitous back a decadeish ago when I embarked for Palo Alto intending to make it rich in the allegedly glorious California republic.
Flash forward, and when I go down the road later to the rainbow flag festooned shop full of “allies”, I’m going to see not a single startup owner who actually grew up in one of the adjacent townships as I delete my LinkedIn and start making my travel itinerary, funded with the IRA I shouldn’t be selling out if I filled during the summer of Snowden interning for a large browser maker that’s uh… not Google.
I’ve given up on looking for work, since unless you’ll let gentrifiers exploit 412’s relative lack of consumer and rental protections, you’ll be blacklisted by folks who don’t grok that without economic freedom everything else is meaningless.
(As in you’ll be putting glass on top of the literal wall surrounding your McMansion like it’s post apartheid South Africa if you keep selectively forgetting.)
Maybe folks should finish their coffee then figuratively turn the table over? :-)
