XML has the hate because back in the day everyone was like "oh XML is a human and computer readable data format, that will solve all of our problems". Sure it solved all of the problems by making a data format that both humans and computers found difficult to read. "Oh I've got a problem. I'll solve it with XML. Now you have two problems" ;)
