Ask HN: What are some apps that feel like magic to you?
For example, using Shazam to identify any song in an instant. What else feels like magic?
- McNutty 4y agoImageMagick. since you mentioned magic
- terminal_d 4y agoSQLite. Were it a corporation, it'd be a FAANG.
- atomicnature 4y agoi3 window manager customized to my liking. No other interface provides me such joy :)
- loveparade 4y agoGoogle Maps. We're all taking it for granted, but imagine all the edge cases, complex real-world infrastructure and data analysis that goes into mapping the streets and buildings so well that it actually works, even in small towns. It's much more impressive than Google Search. Given enough compute/storage, I feel like I can build a search engine. With Google Maps, I would have no idea where to even start.
- kickbuttowski 4y agoEmacs. Especially these two packages: org mode and magit
- speedgoose 4y agoChatGPT and MidJourney.
- thensome 4y agoMy smart light app that lets me pick any color. Being able to match the outside color temp or turn the lights red at night is awesome and it's kinda crazy to me that we can just do it so easily now
- qup 4y agoEverything we're doing is magic, we just got used to it. Email, spotify, wikipedia, all of it.
- hackrnusr 4y agoEmacs.
