So we should let those who can't work die?
- Sakos 4y ago[flagged]
- credit_guy 4y agoThe U in UBI stands for "Universal". The vast majority of the people can work. Just like we don't let people who come to the Emergency Room die because they can't pay, we, as a society, can take care of the few people who, for reasons like mental health, or physical ailment, can't work.
- kodyo 4y agoIs that what happens now?
- happytoexplain 4y agoThey often suffer, of course. They sometimes die, more directly or less directly due to the suffering. Not all of them of course - we have social systems. But those are far from a silver bullet.
- bhhaskin 4y agoThere is a difference between those that can't work and those that choose not to work.
- thegrim33 4y agoI think you managed to fit multiple logical fallacies in a single sentence ... the person you're replying to is not suggesting they die, and there's solutions to the problem other than UBI, for example, what we already have .. social welfare programs for people that's can't work.
- em-bee 4y agohow is that any different? currently those that can't find work (even if they are capable) are getting social welfare. all UBI is doing is that this welfare is given to everyone unconditionally. so the benefit does not go to those that can't find work but also to those that do find work. who then have the freedom to take breaks (when they have kids for example) because they are covered by UBI. and at the same time free up space for someone else who wants to work but can't find work.
- commandlinefan 4y agoNo, you should definitely provide for their care.
