Twitter Said to Consider Selling User Names to Boost Revenue
- alexb_ 4y agoWhere are all of the people using twitter now going to go when they finally run out of money? It's clear Mastodon/fediverse is an absolute failure at keeping people around, so what's next? Are we all going to move to personalized forums again?

- rsynnott 4y ago… Wait, is it? Like if you’re referring to the drop to 1.8 million active, that actually represents a pretty hefty retention rate (though more data on long-term retention certainly needed)
- smoldesu 4y agoThis honestly does not surprise me. The internet already has a precedent around paying for namespace, and it makes sense when you apply it to social media for the same purposes. That being said, nobody is going to be happy about this on Twitter. It's another thing they've taken for granted being made dilute under Musk, rather than focusing on the value-add of their optional subscription. It's an interesting situation for sure. Calling all frogs: assume boiling position!

- ofcourseyoudo 4y agoI actually don't mind this idea in theory, but it seems a reasonable implementation of this would require verification/validation that they don't seem equipped to handle, unless they are okay with @POTUSDeSantis going to whoever has the most money.
- matthewmcg 4y agoGet ready for a wave of trademark infringement/cybersquatting litigation as this shakes out.
