"Nobody should be installing gas in new construction, period." Couldn't you use that logic and say no one should be building cars with ICE, period?

"Nobody should be installing gas in new construction, period."
Couldn't you use that logic and say no one should be building cars with ICE, period?
- SketchySeaBeast 4y agoThe difference here would be that the only infrastructure burden that is introduced by banning gas stoves can be solved by the new construction itself - forcing everyone to buy an electric car isn't going to cause all the required home and quick chargers to pop up at the same time.
- CorrectHorseBat 4y agoEV cars still have some drawbacks, are in absolute terms significantly more expensive and cars don't last nearly as long as homes.
- ceejayoz 4y agoEventually, yes, we should probably do that (with minor exceptions). I'd probably preceed it with a requirement for charging infrastructure in new home construction (especially if you're putting in a garage), and there are already subsidies for existing construction.
- freeone3000 4y agoYes! And we did -- and they're banned in 2035, which is later than I'd like but fine.
- unethical_ban 4y agoNo, you couldn't. We're still solving technological and supply challenges with batteries, charging infrastructure and cost differences on the order of $10-30k for a vehicle. None of those issues are present with stoves. And yes, we should be working as a society as quickly as possible to not use fossil vehicles.
