Gaetz introduces amendment to bring C-SPAN cameras back to House floor
- macinjosh 4y agoSeems only fair the US voter be allowed to watch their employee do the job.
- hgsgm 4y agoDo you feel the same way about your job?
- 2devnull 4y agoYou are against cspan? I had no idea that was anybody’s viewpoint.
- hgsgm 4y ago> You are against cspan? Why would you assume that? Covering Congressional busines (speeches, votes) is different from following people around on the floor during 1:1 conversations.
- Our_Benefactors 4y agoThe goalposts were right here a moment ago!

- marmetio 4y agoThey could have been more clear, but the public debate is over whether the expanded scope will be beneficial or detrimental. The value of C-SPAN in general is not in question.
- WeylandYutani 4y agoApproval rates can hardly drop any lower than they are.
- marmetio 4y agoCan you clarify, approval rate of what exactly?
- Our_Benefactors 4y agoHow is this relevant? My job isn’t a publicly elected position.
- sneak 4y agoIf I were an employee, working at an employer's dedicated commercial facility, I would expect to be under video surveillance at all times in 2023. I'm already under the same every time I go out to eat, or anywhere retail.
- wellthisisgreat 4y agoPeople holding public office and wielding that kind of power should be under incredible scrutiny and surveillance and also required to pass exams and get licenses to keep their profession. It’s wild that you must study for 15 or something like that years to become a doctor so that you god forbid make a mistake and kill someone, and you can just swindle your way into a position where your ignorance can ruin thousands if not more of lives, and also enjoy the life of complete anonymity and insulation from the effects of your ignorance.
- JumpCrisscross 4y ago> Do you feel the same way about your job? House floor, not in their offices. This is the equivalent of having the CEO dial into a stand-up.
- hgsgm 4y agoHe wants to turn Congress into a reality TV show for clout instead of governance.

- CodexArcana 4y agoThe British Parliament has a live feed, they've had it forever.
- daveoc64 4y agoFrom what I understand the proposal here is to have camerapeople moving around and filming things that look interesting. The UK's parliament coverage doesn't work like that.
- pauljurczak 4y agoThe UK Parliament has a different sitting arrangement, allowing for a much closer look at the individual players.
- gymbeaux 4y agoThis is in line with his thoughts that Congress is dysfunctional and strange. He explains his feelings in detail in the HBO doc “The Swamp”. It’s actually interesting and insightful, and for a few moments you forget what a piece of shit he is. Essentially Congress has a caste system based around how much money you can raise for your party. Everyone has to raise a certain amount or they are essentially outcast from their party. Pelosi is speaker when the Dems control the House not because of her experience or other credentials, but because she consistently raises the most money.
- ThePowerOfFuet 4y agoCan we please not link to trash like Fox News on HN?
- pauljurczak 4y agoWhat was trashy about that article or proposal itself? Your trash may be a treasure for some else.
- ThePowerOfFuet 4y agoThose people for whom Fox News is treasure are not welcome in a society where people care about others.
