I'm not sure Ipads are particularly good bulk reading devices. Something with an Eink display (i.e. non-light-emitting) might be a better option. I use a Kobo ereader a lot. It has integration with Pocket[1] which makes it handy for reading a lot of web pages. Then there is Calibre[2] for converting and managing any other documents I may need to deal with. Good luck!
