This is interesting because I recently bought an Apple TV and noticed that the Spotify app on Apple TV does NOT support on-screen lyrics (which the Spotify app on FireTV does support) Wonder if it's related? Could Apple have blocked Spotify from adding on-screen lyrics?

Unlikely blocked by Apple, more likely same place as Airplay 2 support. Not bothered to be done by Spotify.
