  In so far as it was tried. The assault rifle ban had some positive impact, its revocation certainly made school shootings more deadly. There is a long history of gun control in the US actually. The 2nd amendment originally was only meant for well regulated militias to carry simple rifles. Not for disgruntled white males to dismember school children.
