This is probably a stupid question, but why would they want a 49% stake? Why not a 51% stake, or any other number?
- luma 4y agoIt might just be what's on sale. Not too uncommon for an org to sell off the largest chunk possible that doesn't grant full control.
- DrBenCarson 4y agoMSFT want to eliminate the possibility that a competitor scoops them up without derailing their current autonomous trajectory. 49 is a pretty ideal number to accomplish both goals simultaneously
- britneybitch 4y agoLikely OpenAI wants to retain control of their company. If they keep 51%, they have a majority stake.
