This is pure speculation on my end, but I can see it happen in a way that is not gross negligence. Backend does not understand what frontend looks like, does, or even supposed to do. Data team just wants to make sure stuff is mapped and goes where it is supposed to go without breaking anything. Nowhere there is a person who is responsible to say 'the fuck yo'.
