There’s a lot of us that work in industries we have no affinity to. Lots of good devs in crypto, porn, society ruining media, society ruining social media, defense, war, and just out right saas scams.
- robin_reala 4y agoNot that I particularly liked GP’s comment, but this I take issue with. You’ve always got a choice to not join a company, and you’ve got a choice to start your career deciding not to work in particular areas. I’ve always been clear with myself that I’d never work in defence for example.
- jesuscript 4y agoYou have a choice if you have a choice. Choice is a luxury.
- robin_reala 4y agoIt’s not like you’re in leg irons chained to your desk and being whipped unless working code appears. I disagree with your blanket statement.
- jesuscript 4y agoThen you don’t live in the real world. I’m not turning down a job in an industry that’s just as silly as any other and provides me a livelihood that gets ever harder.
- AYBABTME 4y agoCandidly, how do you review this prior of yours against the realities brought forward by the war in Ukraine?
- robin_reala 4y agoThe same as I did with the realities of Afghanistan, or Iraq, or Syria, or any of the other wars that have happened since I’ve been professionally developing software. War is a reality, but it’s also something I can choose to not engage in. It’s down to you to pick the things you feel are important to you, and if that’s (for example) gambling instead of defence then you do you.
- AYBABTME 4y agoMakes sense. Thanks for answering.
