Collective phenomena (reaching the point of mass hysteria) feel like getting worse. There is already a large number of individuals that are experts at inciting viral propagation. Its not clear how we could institute counterbalances and circuit breakers that would restore some sanity. Traditionally this was the role of academics and journalists but both have been compromised.
