  Severance is not really a thing for people who don't have cushy tech jobs or union representation. Most people get let go with nothing except what the law requires.

    This simply isn't true and is like people saying you're lucky you that you only lost one arm some people lost two. What matters is the relevant laws and the perception. Severance is a thing in all industries. I'd imagine you are just repeating something you heard on Fox News, but maybe you can try researching the subject a bit more and find out you're flat wrong.
