  The money the company saved would have paled in comparison to legal costs had Google or some government authority decided to take action against them for buying and using stolen accounts. And no "this random developer (who we can't find) did it" isn't a valid excuse. The company is still fully liable for their code.

    Does google have no liability for offering free accounts? Seems some abuse is to be expected when you open yourself like that. They failed to validate the owner of those free accounts.
