Doesn’t HN use cloudflare? I’d guess that’s the source of the captcha and not something that was implemented by HN on purpose.

    When it comes down to it, between Cloudflare and Recaptcha, I think Cloudflare is the lesser of two evils.

      Not if recaptcha is temporary and only on the login / signup pages.
