This was a pretty decent article and good on Vox for publishing it. There are some figures showing how antibiotic use for meat animals had decreased but are starting to tick up a bit, wonder how much (or lack of) media coverage has an impact on this trend.
I grew up in an area known for dairy production (in the u.s.a) and have heard from dairy staff when a cow used for Organic product gets sick often (not sure a percentage) their only choice is to "take the animal to auction". It's a catch 22 because if you treat the cow they may no longer qualify for Organic standards.
From my experience working on lettuce farms there are still a ton of things you can spray on the crops while qualifying for Organic labeling.
It's complicated to say the least.
- defrost 4y agoInterestingly feral goat and camel musters are good business and pull in what are essentially 100% "organic" animals that otherwise run wild and breed out of control to the detriment of the environment: [1] https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-18/the-lucrative-business-of-mustering-feral-goats/9149568 https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-18/the-lucrative-busines...
