I think to some extent it’s the way that people reason with the inherently exploitative system that we are in. If you feel that your worth is based on your monetary value then it makes sense that would be imposed on any discussion of the “value” of things. It is hard to make someone recognize the value of something that does not align with the way they are evaluated.
