Let's say for the sake of the argument that it was stolen.
What will materially change in your life if the big shiny palace is inhabited by one guy or the other?
This is also true in the U.S. and everywhere else by the way. The notion that one guy can make or break a 400mn people country is laughable.
Recently a report came out that outlined that Brexit costed about 50bn to the U.K. in terms of missed growth. 50bn , basically a rounding error, and yet it dominated the headlines and the political discourse for 10 years starting in 2012
- matheusmoreira 4y agoYou gotta be kidding me. President Bolsonaro opens his mouth and offends the entire nation by being an ignorant idiot, isolating himself politically in the process. President Lula opens his mouth and defends literal socialism, causing economic meltdown as a result. Stock exchange gets shorted to oblivion every time he makes a speech. USD-BRL exchange rates increase every time he opens his mouth, giving instant raises to any remote worker here getting paid in USD, at least until he regulates the software developer profession like he promised he would. Bolsonaro removed taxes on fuels to get prices under control, Lula added those taxes back in the very first days of his government, fucking over the very same brazilians who elected him. Of course the salary of brazilians has not increased to match, meanwhile these authorities give themselves 18% raises on taxpayer dime. The very first thing he did was revoke our right to own and bear arms. The government barely has any money to pursue its own social policies even after they voted to increase spending by 200+ billion over the budget, yet they created 10+ government agencies whose purpose is essentially to give positions and high salaries to their own political allies. I wouldn't be surprised if we suffer hyperinflation in the next few years. We went through many failed government currencies last century, coins that literally inflated to zero, and I have to listen to some government economist telling the population he doesn't "believe" in non-governmental currencies like bitcoin. If you search "brazil" on HN, you'll find the top post is about the creation of the real which was nothing but yet another currency created to combat hyperinflation. Now they're talking about creating a south american currency like the euro because what we absolutely need right now is to conflate our currency with other south american nations in even worse economic states. The only reason I'm still in this shithole is I don't have the heart to leave my family behind.
