It is written in the form of a casual blog post. Really, all he is saying is that he doesn't respect these people on a personal level and "knows the type" (or what have you). If you disagree, that's fine, but if you want a more formal type of discourse, pay some journalists. It also _does not_ strike me as "weird in context", but I guess you're just hoping people don't actually read the thing (which, fair enough - no one does here).
