Combining this with the 3000 children figure gives a rate of approximately 0.13 per 1,000 per year.
In 2021, the U.S. Poison Control Centers reported that the rate of all reported poison exposures for under-6 was 37.9/1,000.
This makes exposure to weed edibles account for about 0.34% of all reported poison exposures for under-6es.
It's also much lower than, say, the number of children injured in automobile accidents over the same period (though higher than the number that died)
I do admit to being a little distressed at the idea of an under-6 child being admitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator, due to accidental THC ingestion.
(also have you tasted those things? it's hard to imagine a kid wouldn't just spit it back out as soon as they tried it)
