The current legal/regulatory environment means they are not liable for these scams so there's no benefit to them from proactively taking them down. Furthermore, the scammers, fake accounts and victims all contribute to "engagement" numbers.
- smoldesu 4y agoPrecisely. It's not like they're about to lose ground to Amazon Prime, Vimeo or Dailymotion, either - YouTube is Google's iPhone, a product so iconic and ingrained in our daily lives that they can blight it with ads and scammers, but people will still use it. There's no limit to the power they can exert over their own platform, and as we've seen it traditionally leads to situations like [this]. All of this is to say: if you fear regulation or government regulation, none of these problems will ever be addressed.
