> Those let go in November have been kept on the payroll and have been paid their regular salaries for the previous 60 days due to requirements of the federal WARN Act, which mandates companies give a 60-day notice before mass layoffs
I’m no Musk fan by any means, but like, that + 1 month of severance… sounds like 3 months of severance to me?
- dragonwriter 4y agoIts two months of employment before termination, as required by the WARN Act, plus one month of severance. Choosing not to assign duties during the legally mandatory pre-mass-layoff notice period doesn’t make pay for that period into severance.
- Timon3 4y agoThat is not how severance works. If the employees are owed 60 days of back-pay and their severance is for 90 days, they must receive 150 days of pay in total. If a friend were to lend you 5$, and the next day he sells you something for 10$, you can't just give him 10$ and call it even. That would be called stealing, just like what Musk is attempting here.
