I feel like a bad person sometimes when I get excited by a topic, click, then reflexively close a tab that has tech content delivered by anime characters. I do the same thing with furry tech writers, too.
Here's a terrible analogy: I know I'm missing something, but at the same time it's not worth it to me. Soda tastes good, but I know all that sugar isn't good for me.
I think it comes from how sexualized furries and anime characters (why are they always childlike females?) are in modern culture, and that bothers me somewhat when I'm surreptitiously made part of that. It garners the same reaction as when someone is walking through public whilst practicing their kink overtly.
I respect the hell out of your right to do what makes you full, but you also got to respect my right to not want to take part. I don't feel disrespected, but I am in this moment expecting harsh judgement for that innate feeling of self preservation.
Don't get me wrong, I'd say the same if it were any other sexualized images, not just the ones on the fringes of what's considered 'common'.
- formerly_proven 4y agoThe only images on the linked page are a PDP-11 console and a scott adams strip in the appendix. Neither the about page nor the main page have any images, either. What's your problem here, exactly?
- aliqot 4y agoWeird, because when I click the article in the OP I get an anime school girl across the entire page that does not go away when I scroll. My problem is browsing HN on www when I should have used gopher HN instead.
- lidavidm 4y agoIt's there on desktop, not on mobile. Not really a big deal IMO. (Also the blog subdomain is almost certainly a reference to Love Live - "nico nico nii~" or something like that is a catchphrase of one of the characters.) But yeah, I don't really get what the problem is...there's always reader mode, and it's not like they're dumping a ton of JavaScript on you!
- formerly_proven 4y agoAha, you weirdos are using light mode. That's why you see loli girls all over the place. /s (Seems like something about the site's CSS bugs out in dark mode, causing the image to not show up. Or maybe it's intentional because of bad transparency or something like that)
- aliqot 4y agoso, what's the problem here exactly, as you so eloquently asked?
