Symlink to a URL
- graderjs 4y agoAnother interesting discussion: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14633686/possible-to-symlink-a-file-to-a-web-url https://stackoverflow.com/questions/14633686/possible-to-sym... And some cool github links: - https://github.com/kahing/goofys https://github.com/kahing/goofys -- a high-performance, POSIX-ish Amazon S3 file system written in Go - https://github.com/maxogden/mount-url https://github.com/maxogden/mount-url -- mount a http file as if it was a local file using fuse
- necovek 4y agoSymlinks are virtually just extra data in the inode. As such, it should be possible to add a symlink that points to an URL, provided lower level or POSIX limits do not restrict characters like ":" (though that's easily worked around by using a different character). Now, interpreting such symlinks as files is a different matter. I am surprised nobody has yet come up with an overlay FS for Linux that transparently reads from a symlinked URL: this would allow such symlinks to work in any symlink supporting filesystem.
